History of Royal Caribbean and its ships

Everyone likes to go on a vacation every now and then but what about a cruise to change things up? But which cruise line do you take? Royal Caribbean is one of the best in the world and tends to have the best experiences. Not to mention the best ships not only in entertainment but in reliability as well.

Royal Caribbean was founded in 1968; two years later the line put its first cruise ship into operation. The name of this ship was the Song of Norway. The next year they added the Nordic Prince essentially doubling the cruise lines capacity. Since then they have been adding more ships, updating technology, and making the best liners in the world. Many people choose this cruise line just for the ships that they offer.

Royal Caribbean has many classifications of ships. The first mega ships of the industry where the Sovereign Class of liners. Next comes the Vision class which at the time was the only ship with a golf course on it. Pretty nice to say the least. After this came the Radiance class of ships. These ships were touted as being more environmentally friendly and had cleaner burning gas turbine engines instead of diesel engines.

The voyager class came after this and offered something unique to the class. Mainly an indoor shopping mall complete with every kind of store you could want. This was quite a thing to behold at the time. This class is the third largest in the world. The Freedom class came after this and became the largest ocean sailing cruise liner in the world. It took everything the Voyager class had and made it better, bigger mall, golf course, more activities for family and kids.

In 2009 a new class of vessel dubbed the Oasis class is expected to be launched. It will be the largest cruise ship in the world and can hold between 5000 and 6000 passengers. This is determined by how many people are sharing rooms. For the record that’s more people than an aircraft carrier. That’s a big ship. Not to mention the fact that it has all the bells and whistles.

Now there have been some issues with Royal Caribbean about security. People have gone missing without a trace and in some cases blood has been found on the decks. Royal Caribbean has taken these issues very seriously and has installed security cameras in the halls, and added metal detectors and x-ray machines to screen for contraband. They also have hired additional security personnel to patrol the ship. It’s sad when this is needed on a cruise ship but if it comes to this or the passengers safety then you take this.

The U.S. headquarters for the organization is located in Miami, Florida. Although the main area they send their cruise ships through is the Caribbean, the do offer trips to other parts of the world. These can be a bit more expensive. But regardless on any cruise you will find rock climbing walls, shops, restaurants, pubs, entertainment, swimming pools, and lots of other fun activities for the family.
